The Jingle Bell Book Tag

I was recently tagged by the lovely Ashleigh @ A Frolic Through Fiction to do the Jingle Bell Book Tag, which was created by Richard @ The Humpo Show. I was feeling as though my blog needed a little festive assistance, so this came at the perfect time!

“All I want for Christmas is you…” | What book do you want to see under the Christmas tree?

I’ve requested Voyager by Diana Gabaldon in my attempts to slowly but surely work my way through the Outlander series. It’s already taken me three years to get through the first two, but I do love them and I have no plans on stopping reading them, even if I am forty by the time I’m done!

“Simply having a wonderful Christmas time…” | What book that you have read this year did you enjoy the most?

Ooh this is a sneaky one as I could be giving spoilers for my 2018 Reflection post! That being said, if you follow any of my social media at all you could probably guess that it is of course Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas. I plan on going into this in more detail, but I just felt as though every single part of this world came together in the most intricate and fitting way and I absolutely loved every second of reading about this cast of unforgettable characters!

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…” | Which book has the most festive look to it?

It turns out that I don’t own many books at all that have Christmassy vibes on their covers, in fact, this tag has made me realise that I really don’t reach for festive books much at all! The only thought that came to mind was Mortal Kiss by Alice Moss. Although the cover isn’t really my cup of tea, I absolutely adored this book when I was around thirteen and thinking about it still makes me feel cosy and content!

Elf | What book unleashes your inner child?

An obvious choice for this one, but I couldn’t think of any other book which sums up, to me, the feeling of being a child more than The Philosopher’s Stone. Every time I go back to it I feel as though I am being enveloped in the cosiest, warmest feelings. I was about nine or ten when I first began reading these books and I feel like this was the perfect age to relate to the characters and be in awe of the magic that J. K. Rowling creates. Ten years later, I’m still just as in love with these stories, but for pure child-like enchantment it’s this first book which really stands out as full of fond memories.

The Grinch | Your favourite villain…

I had someone in my head for this and spent ages trying to work out who it was before realising it was Erik Killmonger from Black Panther because we *love* a villain with complex motives! In terms of books (which is why we’re here) I think Smaug from The Hobbit would have to be up there. He is so cunning and intelligent, and his dialogue with Bilbo sparks with so much life. I could read pages and pages more of their interactions than what Tolkien gives us, and I think his iconic image in literature is definitely well deserved.

The Holiday | Name your favourite two couples

The answer that came to my head instantly when I saw this was of course Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood from The Mortal Instruments. Although I’m very behind on books in this world and have no intention to pick up any of the newer ones as they come out, I will forever love these two as they were one of my earliest ships! As for a second pairing, I’m quite fond of Elide and Lorcan in Throne of Glass. Lorcan is definitely our broody hero but Elide’s lack of patience for this means they complement each other so well!

What book would you like to give as a present to your followers?

This stunningly beautiful edition of Wuthering Heights – one of my favourite books of all time.
